The Wunderkit show is about to start. Grab a front row seat

October 20, 2011 - Comments

This past year has been an amazing time for us at 6Wunderkinder HQ. Wunderlist has continued to outshine every productivity tool out there, and everyone from The New York Times to the BBC has been interested in what we, as a company, have to say. We also came third at the Vodafone Mobile Click Awards 2011, bringing home a fantastic €25,000 in prize money.

All of this stuff, put simply, is incredible. But things are about to get a whole lot more exciting, for all of us. Unless you’ve been living on the moon or have some irrational fear of gossip, you should know that Wunderkit is almost here. We’ve been working so hard to realize the dream we laid out at the very beginning, and keeping so quiet about Wunderkit has been hard for us all – despite the necessity.

Earlier this year we embarked on our very first Wundercamp. The purpose? To kickstart our Wunderkit dream. We all came away with a mind-blowing concept, and began working feverishly to make it a reality – picking up new team members and office space along the way. Last month we set off for Wundercamp 2.0. In a small, seaside town in Denmark we all slipped into top gear, and began inching closer to the finishing line we had already set out. It was the beginning of the end…

One small step for man. The Wunderkit beta.

So, how close is Wunderkit? Very. Today we’ve updated, and you can now register for a beta invite. This is how it works. Visit the page (be sure to admire its beauty), head down to the input field, enter your email address and hit ‘Notify Me’. You’re then placed on a waiting list. As soon as you reach the top of the waiting list, we’ll email you with a Wunderkit invite. We can’t tell you how long you’ll have to wait, it purely depends on how fast you register and how many people have registered before you!

I think we all agree that this waiting list will be pretty huge. A lot of people have been waiting patiently for Wunderkit, and it even became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter. So, we’ve devised a pretty neat way for you to get access a little earlier, and claim a front row seat to the show. As soon as you’ve entered your email address and hit ‘Notify Me’, you’ll be presented with a link. Share this link with anybody you’d like, through Facebook, Twitter or plain old email. With each friend that signs up for Wunderkit through this link, you’ll jump higher in the waiting list queue. It’s that simple. We strongly suggest you do this, we want everyone in on the Wunderkit fun as soon as possible! Think of it as your VIP pass :) For all of you who Tweeted about Wunderkit last month (and made us a worldwide Twitter trending topic), we’ll notify you soon!

So that’s the process. Simple and rewarding. Now, let’s talk design. In true 6Wunderkinder fashion, is drop-dead gorgeous. We wanted to make something a little special. We’ve all been admiring the handy work of Marvin and his wonderful couch animation. See the glittering stars? That’s him too. As always, our secret weapon Jan made the whole thing beautiful. He meticulously crafted the couch by hand in Photoshop, and it was so awesome to watch that we’d like to share it with you. Here’s a video time-lapse of the whole process, with music provided by myself!

One giant leap for mankind. The Wunderkit concept.

You’ve all heard the rumours, now hear the official lowdown. This is the first time you’ll get a glimpse inside of Wunderkit. You already have an incredible task management tool with Wunderlist, and we’re proud of our 1.3 million users. We know we’re doing something right. Wunderlist meets a lot of requirements so lacking in the productivity market, such as being a completely free solution, including cloud synchronization and having an insane multi platform emphasis. At the same time we knew what Wunderlist had to be – a simple, minimalist product. We get so many feature requests every day, some of which are just not right for Wunderlist. What does this tell us? As much as we’re making task management better, there’s still a lot of necessities that haven’t been met… yet.

You all need more power behind your task management, more options, more flexibility. Things like recurring tasks and subtasks, but done the 6Wunderkinder way. We’re pleased to announce that all the things you’ve wished for are coming – and much, much more.

However, these things are not the focal point. Task management is only one part of Wunderkit. Wunderkit will actually help you with the grander scheme of creating, organizing and accomplishing things… from one central place. I’d like to introduce workspaces. Workspaces act as projects. Inside a workspace you’ll find everything you need to help you towards your goals.

How about making notes? Absolutely. Notes have their own dedicated section in Wunderkit. The best part? Other people can like and comment them. Note taking is now a social thing, so you can watch your ideas grow with the help of your friends, family and colleagues.

That brings us neatly on to collaboration. Wunderkit puts a huge emphasis on working together with other people. Wunderlist is an incredible solution for collaboration, but we’re going one step further. Wunderkit was built with mass collaboration in mind, and working with others has never been so seamless. You can ‘follow’ other workspaces to see what they’re working on, or let other people follow you. Every workspace comes with its very own profile page. Your mother will find this easy to use, so will your best friend, so will your boss. The entry bar for productivity and collaboration has truly been lowered, and we’re finally making project management simple and fun.

It’s beautiful. Seriously, you won’t believe it. It’s almost like every pixel fell as a tear from an angel. In the words of the late, great Steve Jobs… one more thing. Wunderkit also has something called the Dashboard. It gives you a birds-eye view on all of your workspace’s recent activity. People can post status updates here, which means you can keep up to date with your whole team. With so much going on, you need a condensed way to view it all. We’ve got the goods.

I know we’ve been saying ‘stay tuned’ for so long, and we’re sorry it’s taken this amount of time to let you guys in on the Wunderkit secret. We re-thought a lot of things along the way, and we’re glad we did. We strive for perfection, and perfection can take some time to achieve. We’re incredibly proud of Wunderkit, and we hope you will be too.

So there you have it. With Wunderlist, we defined the concept of productivity. With Wunderkit, we’re redefining it. The real count down starts now. I’ve only showcased the tip of the iceberg here, there’s a lot more waiting for you inside. If you haven’t already, sign up on Hurry, hurry! The longer you wait, the longer the waiting list will be! Wunderkit’s out of the oven, you can grab your slice soon.
